They do have an external filter. If OP can hear the pump, it’s likely okay. Typically, they either work or they don’t. Keeping in mind that you won’t see much pressure from an open fuel line. Perhaps the tank’s empty?

Yes VR pcm can be used. Just need to use the correct memcal.
