Mods on my vt s1 v6 6 speed auto exe. wagon

That was a helluva big job Lex! Lots of custom work. Ever considered building a hot rod? They require LOTS of that kind of work.

    V8 trimatic leaking from breather

So it got to me..., So I googled the problem. ( "holden trimatic transmission fluid coming out of breather" ) Heaps of solutions - even on this forum. Some suggestions: If the filter is installed incorrectly it can cause the fluid to spill out of the breather. Ditto water in the transmission...

    V8 trimatic leaking from breather

Thanks - I should have known. Is the new stick flexible? Could it be hitting something inside and deflecting? Is there enough of the old stick to check with that instead of the new one? Do you know (or are there) any "old style" trans shops or mechanics near you? Traumatics were pretty popular...

    V8 trimatic leaking from breather

OK, I meant if you could compare the old and new dipsticks, from where they seal/mount into the gearbox, to the level markings - to make sure they are the same length.

Mods on my vt s1 v6 6 speed auto exe. wagon

Ancient thread I know, but just to add, my VX (avatar picture) still has both remote fobs, working, and on their original batteries... I have replaced the buttons on both. That's all. 2001 VX.. Now 2024. Yes, the car's has been driven. It was my work car, now still my daily, with 352000 k's.

    V8 trimatic leaking from breather

Reading through the thread, my money is on the dipstick. You said it was replaced. Why? Do you still have the old one? Just so you can compare the two. If not, maybe beg/borrow/buy a standard one? Even just for a check. Wreckers maybe? Have you driven on any long trips so that the fluid can...

Sudden Loss of Power Steering WHEN DRIVING

Thanks. Did the dealer accept the fact they have to replace the rack? And I wonder why your car wasn't on the recall list?

Joining the ZB crew - 2019 LT 2.0L long term review thread.

How many k's has the car done? Are the roads in your most-travelled area generally rough? Might just be shocks?

VX Wagon 3.8 Auto. RPM at 100kmh ?

Not wishing to drag the pain out any longer, but why was the trans replaced? Self-interest here with 352,000 k's on mine.

VX Wagon 3.8 Auto. RPM at 100kmh ?

Thanks for letting us know. Looking back over the thread, the evidence was there. I suppose you wouldn't like to tell us who the specialist was? (or whether the mechanic who referred the gearbox back to them, actually did?) There's heaps of 4L60E's out there. Shouldn't be hard to get right -...

Thanks Lex. Re the alternator, I ended up fixing the original VX one. New brushes and bearings. Been ok for years.

Mods on my vt s1 v6 6 speed auto exe. wagon

G'day Lex and all. Firstly, Lex: Love your work! You approach faults in a manner that guarantees you find the actual source of the problem. You said "Correct alternator cases for the VT" . Are they unique? I say yes. I bought a second hand alternator from the wreckers and it wouldn't work...

    LS1 engine mount measurements

Hi All. I am researching engine mounts for a project. LS1 hydraulic mounts might be suitable, but I need to find out some dimensions. 1: the diameter of the mounts 2: the distance between the upper and lower mounting surfaces. 3: the length of the threaded securing studs. Thanks in advance.

    Engine oil service

Please let us know how it goes. My VX had 352,000 k's on it, mainly using the Shell HX 15W 40. I did have issues a while ago when I stupidly used an "high mileage" oil in it. After a flush (X2) and return to the Helix 15W 40, all is ok. But maybe it could be better?

Yeah, with the braks applied and the car in Drive, give the engine a small rev. Now select reverse, brakes on and give the engine a rev.

Knocking Noise... Sv6 Top back right Piston area (Facing Car)

Sounds like the system used in the old Astron Mitsubishi OHC engines. My old Magna had a tick tick tick at idle, classic valve train noise. I traced the noise using a stethescope, to around the cylinder one area. Then I decided to take off the valve cover and start the car to see if I could hear...

Torque converter playing up maybe. ?

Good transmission specialists are hard to find, so once you locate one, keep him. Recommend them to your friends and colleagues, and make sure you tell the transmission guy. That'll make sure he stays in business, and keep him honest as lots of folks recommend him. And keep in touch. Just so he...

What will my 2017 holden vf ssv be worth these days

Jesus! It's not even the right yellow! I understand it WAS Brock's, but it's till an old Commodore with over 200K on it. And why is that an HSV steering wheel? But maybe Brock's farts are worth the money? But it is worth noting how well the interior has stood up. Check out the wear on that seat.

"A" protected species. There are many. And re the poor kid attacked by the Police dog, that poor kid still gets a free ride in the ambulance and his (her?) arm still has dog bite right to the bone. No amount of species protection will make that hurt less.

Vf wiring diagram for steering rack

Sometimes you have to look harder and have experience. I dismantled a Toyota Crown when building my 1936 Chev hot rod. The Crown had hydraulic power steering, but also had a crude form of ESC. While dismantling the steering column I came across 3 wires going to the ABS controller. According to...

Any forum as only as good as the people that use it (regularly). Facebook is "instant" then it's gone. No history. VX keeps blowing Crankshaft Position Sensors every 6+ months (With Error Code: P1372)

There is a great write-up on here (somewhere) that describes how the CAS works and how to trace/check wires. The wires from the CAS to the DFI are known to fail, especially at the age these cars are now. I had the same issues with my VX's CAS a few years ago. Original one failed once, then a...

VX2 Commodore 3.8 with misfire, no start, and more

I am going by memory here, but I think the 1361 code IS the crank angle sensor, or the wiring to the CAS. The CAS has two timing wheels, one is X3 and one is X18, as in pulses per revolution of the crankshaft. When you turn the key to start the DFI module (under the coils) gets fed the X3 pulses...

    VT/VY doors

Bottom one is like my VX Series 1. That top one doesn't even look like a Holden type. It has a strong spring with a roller on it, and the arm has detents along it so the door stays open and various points.

Oil leak at the bottom of the radiator

    1. If the cooler inside the radiator is leaking, trans fluid will leak into the water/coolant. Not out to the engine bay. This is a Ford issue that doesn't seem to affect Holdens. 2. My VX has had one replacement radiator. I screwed up when replacing the battery and leant on the top radiator...

    Alternator on ignition off

No responses? It sounds like the replacement alternator is faulty. With the dash in diagnostic mode, does the alternator charge normally? If you leave it overnight does the battery discharge? With the battery disconnected, disconnect the alternator at both connections, then test it. Then...

I watched one on the Canberra carsales auction last week. It was a very low kilometer white wagon. I was impressed by the interior. VX Wagon 3.8 Auto. RPM at 100kmh ?

Hi Commo Baba. As has been said, it sounds like it's not going into 4th. That "ghost shift" you speak of could be the torque convertor lock up (they can lock in 3rd and 4th). If you get out on the highway at 100kph and 2600 RPM, what happens if you shift to 3rd ( with the shifter)? Does the...
