    What oil is everyone using

Just make sure its full synthetic and checked regularly especially if you leave it in for 15000klms. Some of our fleet cars weren't getting past 10000klms without the need for a top up. No one will ever admit to putting cheaper oil in.

[VE] VE Centre Speaker Grille Removal Without Lifting Demister Strips

I found a perfect tool to remove the centre dashboard speaker grille on my VE Commodore without the need to remove the demister plastic strips that run across in front of the grille near the windscreen. I used one of two black metal clips that go behind my number plate covers. They have hook...

Please help guys, powertrain warning light drives me mad!!!

You may be overlooking some of the details in my post. 1. Engine light only came on after I changed spark plugs. 2. Engine light stopped coming on after I fixed the breaks in the gasket. Also, I suspect if you drive too long with a faulty air/fuel mix ratio caused by a break in the gasket, it...

Please help guys, powertrain warning light drives me mad!!!

Check to see if they billed you for a gasket. If they didn't you could argue they should have replaced it. Bit hard to prove either way. I think the gasket would always break when the manifold is removed.... It doesn't take long to get it off yourself. Maybe worth a try.

Please help guys, powertrain warning light drives me mad!!!

Same problem when I changed the spark plugs myself. Its the intake manifold gasket. They probably broke it when they lifted the manifold and didn't bother replacing it. The engine senses a problem because its taking in air from the break in the gasket. A new gasket is around $75. I just got some...

How To Replace Radius Rod Bushes VT / VZ

Today I changed these bushes on my VY2 wagon. The symptoms were: soft brake pedal, slight pull to the right at high speed braking, on long hills a shudder and what could be diagnosed as worn out brake pad noise. I also got told by the wheel aligner they needed replacing. I jacked up both...

[VY] Climate Control Fan or Blower Speed Resistor or Controller

I have a VY with climate control and the fan only worked on maximum speed. This is typical of when the Fan or Blower Speed Resistor or Controller part fails. The most amazing thing was it failed because a wire soldered to the outside of the unit had become unsoldered and I simply resoldered it...

Engine and gearbox swap or transplant

 Sorry to seem dumb on this but still not clear on: Engine is a straight swap so does existing wiring just bolt straight on? Seems too simple. Should the BCM and ECU from the newer engine be used? If using the newer auto, can the exhaust problem be solved by using the later exhaust...

Engine and gearbox swap or transplant

Has anyone installed a VT or VX V6 engine and gearbox in their VS? I am thinking of doing this but am not sure if it is just a straight install. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm sure this will be something many people will want to do in the future as the VT and VX engine and gearboxes seem...

    Tips on degreasing engine bay

The pulley bearings and serpentine belt can be affected if they dry out. I've been told to avoid degreasing anything that moves.

Powersteering pump VS V6 Statesman fix

The powersteering pump on my VS V6 Statesman (Variatronic) sprung a serious leak from the back. Not feeling like buying a new one, I rang Repco, AutOne, Supercheap and Autobahn in Sydney. They all offered only one option, an exchange pump for at least $165. I then researched this site and...

V6 runs cold, slow to warm, doesn't hold temperature, bad fuel economy

My recommendation to anyone who's V6 isn't getting warm fast, seems to run cold or doesn't hold a fairly steady temperature, or uses too much fuel, CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT NOW, before it leads to more trouble.

My VS V6 has poxy fuel economy!!!

Mine was running cold and ended up stopping. I changed the thermostat and the temperature is now around the second mark on the gauge all the time, thats about halfway between cold and half-hot. The old thermostat looked ok at first glance and I heated it up in a pot of boiling water on the stove...

Changed the thermostat and the temperature is now around the second mark on the gauge all the time, thats about halfway between cold and half-hot. VS V6 spluttered and stopped

Time to update you guys. Removed and cleaned the fuel tank, blew compressed air through all the lines, installed a brand new genuine Holden fuel pump, changed one of the internal wires to the pump which looked like it may not have had a good connection, found a breather hose on top of the tank...

    Hose connections for EGR valve

Can anyone out there with a VS V6 please let me know which pipe the vacuum hose coming from the bottom of the throttle body connects to. It is either the top or bottom pipe on the EGR valve. The other one goes to the charcoal cannister. I can't tell which is which as they both came off at the...

    VS V6 spluttered and stopped

Latest is I replaced the fuel regulator and the temp sender unit. Engine started with difficulty and ran for a while. During this time, any attempt to accelerate caused the engine to start dying as if it was starving for fuel. Eventually it got rougher and rougher and stopped. Computer stored...

    VS Stalling and spluttering

I'm in the same boat with mine. Its just been sitting in the front yard since it got towed last Saturday. Hoping someone who has had this problem and fixed it will tell us how. If not I'm just gunna chuck it. Don't feel like spending $1000 just to find out when I can get another one that works...

    VS V6 spluttered and stopped

Checked the error codes and came back with 12 only, so assuming all clear on the major components. Thinking it must be something simple but need a check list.

    VS V6 spluttered and stopped

It just spluttered and stopped. It started but ran like it was on two cylinders and then stopped again. I can't get its started at all now. Before this happened the temperature gauge was showing the engine was colder than normal and at one point, I thought I saw some smoke out the front. It...

    Changing Fuel Regulator

Thanks to this thread I fixed the whistle sound which has been coming from my engine bay. I have a VS and the small right angle hose connector that joins the outlet at the bottom of the throttle body to the small plastic hose covered pipe was not tight where it joined the plastic pipe. I used a...

Need Help ! rough idle, stalling, surging

I have a similar problem but it stalls very rarely and is hard to start mainly only when its hot. After reading a lot of threads about similar problems, I've concluded there are quite a number of failure points on the V6 engine. It could be any number of things including but not only sensors...

Rough costing to fix leaking rear main seal

I had one done under warranty at Hunter Holden in Sydney and they did it with the gearbox still in it. They said they were doing so many one of the mechanics worked out a short cut. Unfortunately I didn't get the details. Many of them leaked when new. Many still leak. I wouldn't bother.

Rejuvenating Leather On The Steering Wheel.

Nearly every older commodore/statesman leather steering wheel I see has either faded badly or even become damaged. I fixed mine by taking the leather cover off completely. To get the leather cover off you cut the stitching. Slowly and carefully work your way around the stitching with a rasor...
