    Check engine light question

Went to start the ute this morning and she coughed, ran a bit rough for a couple of seconds then then seemed to run fine.....but then on came a beeping sound and "check engine" light came on. Turned the car off and restarted and the light and beeping was no longer there. My question...

Covering and securing ute load legally

I'm wanting to carry a mower, brush-cutter, catcher boots and tools in the back of a VY ute and I want to do it safely and legally. I can secure the mower well with ropes but the trouble I'm having is the mower is too tall to then be covered by the tonneau cover. How do I secure the other...

    Anybody seen any rust developing?

Seems to me the Commodore from VT onward thru to the VZ have managed to avoid going rusty to any degree. I haven't noticed any with perforated panels or guards on the road. Do any owners of these models have any rusty spots developing? It could help other owners to know where to check for it...

    It's a bit tacky

Can vinyl protectants cause vinyl surfaces to break down and become tacky? I ask this because the horn pad / airbag cover in the centre of my steering wheel of my VY ‘S’ has a tacky surface…. a bit similar to the feel of the back of a ‘post it note’. Or is this a common thing to happen...

Universal joint questions??? Am I on the right track???

Hi everyone, I’ve decided to try and cure a noise that I’ve pinpointed is coming from under the front seats of my VY Ute (V6) SeriesII. The noise is probably described as a ‘resonant hum’. It is most noticeable from about 60kph and up. Mostly with a slight load on the drive train, but goes...

Solving that annoying vibration or rattle at idle

I’ve noticed a lot of posts by VY V6 owners (mostly series II) trying to solve without much success a vibration or rattle that haunts them while sitting at the lights in drive at idle, but goes away when they drive off or increase the RPM slightly. Now the first most important thing to do is...

Anyone used a Refractometer for Engine Coolant Glycol Levels?

I recently drained and flushed the engine coolant in my ute the other day. Its a 50/50 mix of water and ethylene glycol based corrosion inhibiter/antifreeze required for my VY. I mixed it up to the correct ratio and bunged it in. A few days later I borrowed a a refractometer for measuring...
