    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

Don‘t mess with shingles. Many years ago I had some sort of strange sore just above my hairline. Then a sore appeared on my forehead. I went to see my doctor but ended up seeing a student doctor (as my doctor’s practice was a teaching practice). He had no idea what I had but got a scalpel and...

Keep an eye on yourself. Shingles has a 2~3 week incubation period so keep an eye out for symptoms and get the antivirals as soon as possible. I’m not sure if the shingles vaccine will help if you have already been exposed? Maybe visit your doctor, and hit up Google?

And did they then sell it to someone else with ‘a bit of an engine tick’? :)

You must put one on your shopping list! The modern welders are soooo much easier to use than the old stick welders of yesteryear.

2011 VE SSV Pierced Oil Sump/Pan

When I read the OP my thoughts were that the seller wasn’t quite telling the full story of how that mysterious hole appeared in the block, and what they were doing at the time. But I can’t help wondering, as @Smitty has experienced, just how many rpm was it doing at that time, and where did this...

@HSV-Paul, have a search of the forum, or wait for someone with knowledge and experience to chime in. From my reading and limited understanding, is that those engine mounts are intended for very high horsepower applications and are too hard for road use, so will result in too much vibration in...

    Parasitic battery drain

How good is the battery and the charging system? If it has a parasitic load of 1.3A ~ 1.4A and is going close to flat if parked for 30 minutes, something is wrong with either or both. A good battery will have a capacity of about 60Ah, so it should hold a 1.4A drain for about 42 hours. So, to be...

I reckon that if @marty351 is so impressed with DT and the USA, that he should migrate to the US. Then, just maybe, he’ll find out just how welcoming the US is to foreigners.

What did you do in the shed or garage today

The forum system is a bit cumbersome and not very intuitive for loading and resizing images, but the resizing is there (albeit hard to find). But the basic functionality should still be there whether it be Android, iOS, computer, phones, etc. It’s just that I can’t provide you with a screenshot...

What did you do in the shed or garage today

When you are ‘selecting’ photos, is there an ‘options’ button? If so, click on it, and you can select the ‘size’ of the images to use, and reduce it from ‘full size’ to ‘large’ (or smaller) if needed. Then, hopefully the error goes away! :) This is how it looks on an iPad, but on different...

I saw that the switch itself can be removed. But it seems that the switch was connected to the appropriate part, but that part wasn’t engaged to the pin on the rooster comb mechanism. So, I wasn’t sure if it was doable by removing the switch, or if the valve body needed to be dropped. But, it...

    My HSV Clubsport

Did you have to remove the entire valve body to do that, or was it only the sliding switch that needed to be removed, to reengage the mechanism?
  17. C

    My HSV Clubsport

@VT2Commie is speculating that you may not have engaged to end of the lever on that ‘position sensing switch’ (circled in red) in to the corresponding part of the manual selector ‘rooster comb’ assembly attached to the transmission case.

The 6L80e gear selection is fully electronic, so maybe check that every thing is properly plugged back in, and maybe check if there are any error codes being reported? Having said that, I’m not sure what that racket thingo is for, so maybe hit the repair manual before going back in?

Probably either (empty or full) converter will work. Just be aware that the fluid level will drop like a bomb as the converter and cooling lines refill.

Don’t forget to prefill the torque converter with some fluid.

The ‘stock’ might be related to the stall rpm? I’m just guessing here. Some after market t/c are ‘high(er) stall’, so ‘stock’ is probably to indicate that it is a standard OEM stall unit?

    Beware of scams

Apparently there is an issue with my visa and I need to get in touch with the Chinese embassy immediately (”Press 1 for English, Press 2 for Chinese…”). Apparently I’ve been living a double life as a Chinese fugitive in Australia. It’s very exciting! :)

It sounds like things are going really well. You have ‘had a go’ at the transmission yourself and learnt heaps along the way, and now you have charmed your way in to a great deal where you are getting a torque converter in exchange for a few days work - and you’ll be learning even more along the...

    Pothole broke my handbrake

There are a couple of things in those videos that are a little different from what’s in the manual. Firstly, the second video that shows the ‘major’ handbrake service kit. There is also a ‘minor’ kit that only comes with the shoes. The major kit also includes the (coil) spring and bracket which...

    WAR is getting Close.

Your post made me think of that famous quote by Martin Niemöller… First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not...

And another thought… keep working with the transmission shop for some extra days next week as well and see if they’ll help you do a full rebuild? No harm in whacking in a set of new clutches while it’s apart!

Funnily enough, this afternoon I was thinking with all your experience with removing and installing the transmission, you will be able to offer your services to others. You could have made yourself a job. I thought I wouldn’t air that thought until you have it back together and working (I didn’t...

I’d recommend cleaning the outside to ‘like new’ before cracking open the transmission. The less dirt on the outside, the less dirt that can find its way in to the inside. Best to keep an automatic transmission squeaky clean on the inside.

I was going to suggest wrapping a turn or two of insulation tape around the universal joint so you have a bit more control. It’ll still articulate, but won’t flop around so much.

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

That’s a good question, but you should be finding out the answer. I’m trying not to make assumptions, but the 40% figure is perplexing. It does correspond to the $120,000+ tax bracket including Medicare levy. Or is it something like a HECs debt repayment that kicks in? But, as @AirStrike said...

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

As long as ‘minimising tax’ doesn’t involve paying fees and changes that are above and beyond the tax-saving benefits! And if @losh1971 is paying 40% tax on his extra hours, then he would be in the $120,000+ tax bracket??? Something doesn’t quite sound right. But I’d bet my youknowwhat that...

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

I seem to recall that rule (at least in Australia) came in as some tax payers were hiding behind their accountants and saying that the accountant completed the tax return, and that they simply blindly signed it. It was a finger-pointing exercise when the proverbial hit the fan. The ATO changed...

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

I don’t think of it as a case of ‘paying more tax’. To me, it’s often a case of paying ‘less tax’ but also paying the accountant for their fees and services. It’s a bit like when the tax agents advertise that their fees are tax deductible. That is true, so we can reduce our tax by claiming...

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

I’m not saying that this is the case in your circumstances, but your post does make me think of… When I hear the term ‘save tax’, I take that as my cue to ask more questions. I have absolutely no doubt that the accountant, or whoever, can indeed save me tax. But the real question I usually want...

    VF parts shortage...

I recall many years ago that one of the local Holden dealer’s spare parts department had a sign hanging behind the counter. I can’t recall the exact wording, but it essentially said our in-store prices are higher than eBay prices and we can’t price match (so don’t ask).
