215i?

G'day I have a 185i 5L vr calais, I have been considering modifying the engine but was wondering wether it would be cheaper to try and get a 215i engine and drop it in. i have a few questions.
1. Would a 215 engine fit in ok? I have a fully rebuilt auto box would it have to be strengthened? would i need a different diff?ect
2. Where could i get a 215i engine? i have tried a few wreckers but they weren't much help (one tried to tell me a 215 isnt stroked it just a 5L with a different chip?)
3. approximately how much would one set me back?
4. approximately how much could I get for my 185i engine? (it has rebuilt heads, new hydraulic lifters, throttle body and a few other things has done 180 000 ks)
any help would be greatly appreciated

the engine would fit in fine, u would need the 215i computer thoe...
The stock 215i was the stroked 5l version that came out in the senator...
gear box should be fine if its been rebuilt. And with the stroker i doubt u gonna find one. Just do ur motor up, cam, lifters chip, mild port job roller rockers and u would blow a stock stroker...

I've seen 215i engines for like $7,000 on ebay! I would charge it for that or have a decent 355 with more than 215kw

but if i could get one for say $4k and then flog my 185 off for $2k it would only cost me $2k which i think would be a pretty cheap way to gain 30 kw and 100 nm torque. Thats a big torque increase!

the 215i was a 5.7 ltr (stroker) but the Vn SS group A was a 5.0 ltr that also produced 215 KWs.
VN SS Group A 215kw (@ 5200rpm) & 411 Nm (@4800rpm)
215i was 215kw (@ 4800rpm) & 475 Nm (@ 3600rpm)

for 2K you can undergo a cam, chip, higher comp and mild port (maybe roller rockers) and achieve more then a 30 kw and 100 nm of torque gain!! with the std stroke, if you know the right people. for a little more (say 500 - 1000 +) u could build ur 185i into a more powerful stroker then a hsv version!!
