VE SS 6.0 08
Hi everyone
I’m in a very stuck position at the moment. 08 ssv wagon manual 117 xxx kms
My ss is making a ticking noise and I’m not sure what it is. The problem is I went to 2 reputable shops who work on these cars and both shops have said different things which leaves me in a position on confusion.
One shop claimed that it’s the bottom end or something else and it’s not the lifter
The other shop said it’s 100% the lifter.

I don’t want to fix something and then it doesn’t fix the issue.

I do have an engine light that reads cycl 4 missfire.

The car drives normal but the ticking is what’s the issue.

i cant put the video of the sound on here for some reason if any one has some advice on how to please let me know
- I uploaded the video to my Facebook and made it public
So if that works please copy the link and try like that

Probably stop driving it for starters or risk more damage.

The miss-fire might be a indicator it's a valve train issue more than a bottom end issue.

Lifter issues seem to be common. Pull off the rocker cover and look for a loose push rod/rocker which is a good indicator the lifter might be dead. Also check for broken valve springs.

Drain the oil/remove the filter and check for anything in the oil/filter.

Lifters normally cause issue on higher mileage motors (My L98 cracked a lifer at 240k). As advised above, stop driving it until you know for certain.

I was quoted around $4,500 to get it fixed.

I have fb account.
You can turn the sound up.
By default the video is muted.

I don't think the motor will last to long the way he was reving it?

From the sound of the video I'd be going with a top end issue for sure.

Pull the rocker cover and you'll see.

If the engine is not running clean then lifters fail pretty quicky on the LS.
