Many years ago I inadverently bought some manley 2.02 inlet valves for a Chev instead of a Holden. The length of them is 5.040 as opposed to the Holden length of 5.187. They only cost me $100 so the price was good.

Can these be made to work with the VT heads I have?

It's probably not impossible but not a good idea I don't think. That's about 3.73mm difference. It would mean the valve spring pockets in the head would need a heap of machining to get a decent installed height on the valve springs unless you run a tiny cam, then the rocker bosses would need to be machined down to get the rocker geometry right and you would need much shorter push rods too.

I thought that would be the case. It was an engine rebuilder who told me it would work.

I could be wrong but I see a lot of stuff needing machining so what you save on valves is probably spent in machining costs.

I won't be using them and only asked out of curiosity. A new set of Ferrea 5000 inlet valves is only $240. Like a lot of stuff in my garage one day I will sell them.

+.050 locks, deeper valve seats. Maybe a fraction off the valve spring pocket, add lash caps? Plus a shorter installation height for more spring pressure, but would still need to not lift the cam lobe to much or you could find coil bind.

Thanks Deuce. Way way to much bother. Not even sure what I will do with the heads. I keep saying to myself sell all the stuff you are never going to use and don't do anything.

I think it is as much to do with I don't want anyone coming round to my place.
