- VS Commodore Executive Wagon
So a few weeks ago I was wanting a project car. I stumbled across this vl wagon, which was going cheap and had a few goodies.
So a week later I went down and picked it up. It was only about 40km away from where we live, so I got a permit and we tried to get it here. It was ruff for the start as it had been sitting for 7 months, but after about 7 kilometres it gained a bit of power and sounded pretty good. We sat it at around 90 for another 15k's. Then suddenly it lost power and started smoking and coughing. We pulled over to find oil leaking out of the bottom of the head near the oil dipstick. We came to the conclusion that it blew the head gasket, but it could be a bit worse (no compression). So it's currently sitting in the yard, waiting for me to start on it.
I plan on pulling the motor and box out, getting the front straightened out (has a bit of damage) and sand blasted. Then will get all rust removed, even in the windscreen. I am replacing all panels as they all have either damage or rust, and I know that will make the price of a spray steeper. I will get the shell sprayed first, then bit by bit get replacement panels, a bonnet, a nosecone, a tailgate and doors and get them sprayed and put on.
that's all the basic info covered I think Any suggestions will be much apreiciated, I was thinking an rb20 or rb26 conversion maybe? No v8 though and probably no turbo for a few years either as it needs to be P plate legal.
Enjoy the horrible pics, haha, oh and any great rust removal techniques that actually work? It was a beach car so it has bits of surface rust coming up in stupid places.. Also would love it if anyone here knows any good painters in Victoria that are quite cheap and good
