Which E series is your Clubby?
An E3, with an IQ, has the CAN bus router in the IQ and it will have a hissy fit without it.

Make sure the plug is locked down.
Make sure the facia is locked in.

Alternative diag is to unplug the HVAC/Headunit plug and see if it starts then.
