I have just purchased a mint lpg sv6 sportwagon, Can anyone tell me if a standard sportswagon towbar will fit a my12.5 sv6 dedicated lpg wagon due to the gas tanks being at the rear under the wagon floor and they also apear to be mounted to the rear rails also. Thanks......

I have fiitted two towbars myself to my VE SV6 sedan a few years ago. The first was a 1200Kg bar, and the second was a 1600Kg/ 2100Kg bar. The 1200 Kg bar is shorter reach into the chassis rails than the 1600Kg and from memory only two bolts each side. The 1600 Kg bar extends further into the chassis rails and there is an extra bolt that is above the rear mufflers (so mufflers need to be removed to fit the 1600Kg bar). If the gas tank is mounted to the chassis rails close to the rear of the car then it would affect the fitting of the bar, but it could well be that it mounts through the same holes as towbar bolts are installed. To fit a towbar to a VE sedan doesn't require any drilling, just appropriate bolts. I couldn't say differences as far as a gas wagon goes.

You haven't provided which State you are located (makes it easier to give specific advice) as Maitland is in both NSW and South Australia, or does Maitland refer to the Street name !! Have you considered consulting with a Towbar Fitting Specialist. There must be some wherever it is that you live.

FYI this thread. I just fitted a new 1200kg bar to a MY12 DEDICATED LPG Sportswagon and inside the rail slots is a welded in tab to prevent a large capacity towbar being fitted to the DEDICATED FACTORY LPG sportswagon.

As it was we had to cut slots in the new towbar to get it to fit.

Not an issue for me but don't buy one for towing

I bought my LPG VF Sportswagon without a towbar.
When I went looking for one I was told by several suppliers that the std 2100kg Sportwagon bar would not fit, and that there was a dedicated bar for the LPG Sportswagon.
I got mine through Boronia Towbars.
