Ok guys I had the idea of putting a thread up for young drivers like me to ask questions about driving and coping with the roads and different conditions and weather, me in particular will be soaking up any advice given to me, to start off with is there any thing I should be weary of when driving a 6 cylinder station wagon in the wet weather conditions and maybe if I did have to swerve to miss something what would my car do (my EA) I am thinking of :beer chug:

Learn from other peoples mistakes. I've been surprised at the number of people I know who have written off their cars during their probationary period.

Go karting is a cheap and fun way to be competitive with a few mates without losing your license too.

Watch out for other P platers , don't fall foul of the Rozzers , don't be "that guy" , and never ever say when stopped by Police " I'm just waiting for a mate "
keep your car legal , and don't draw attention to yourself .

just gotta remember doing a burnout is harmless fun. most youll do is put a dint in a panel. speeding, youre playing with your life, and others.

wanna learn your car? go to an industrial estate alone, on a really wet night. and have some fun.

this is what i did and it made me learn how my car reacts, how to handle it, how to steer it, and it made me listen and observe the road.

ive never had an accident or ever put a dint in any of my cars.

Or perhaps you might want to consider an advanced driver training course which includes skid pan training instead.

While it may cost a little more at the outset but you will receive professional advice, you won't run the risk of having your car impounded, incurring heavy fines or losing your license which could have implications on insurance cover in the future.

I would highly recommend Driver training courses - I Have done 3.... Google "Driver Training" in your area.

Started with Defensive Driving Course @18(Dad paid) --> Advanced Driving @20 --> Performance Driving(for my CAMS L2-->PC & finally my NC License) continuously for the last 30yrs.

Have I had an @ fault accident - Never... Have I been involved in another persons accident yep(5), All from young, dumb, pimple face, snotty nose, smartarse, cocky, just out of diaper's L/P Plater's Speeding!!!

Don't speed on the street, take it to an industrial estate where you will only damage your car and/or yourself.. Take it to The Track... and make sure you have at least 3rd party insurance.(I think 3rd party, Fire & Theft policies is still offered by some insurers) for not much more than a standard 3rd party policies.

Having a license is a privilege ...not a right !!!
