Oh yes they are.
They come apart just like the older 6/8 cylinder starters, only problem is you cannot buy brushes for them.
Good to hear they can still be dismantled.

Haven’t looked for brushes in many many decades but a very brief google search shows:

https://autopro.com.au/ap/Autopro-Category/Spare-Parts/Electrical-Parts/Brush-Sets/c/147

and

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261219533318

No idea if you’d find the correct brushes in the above but I can see it’d probably be a PITA to find the exact type. But brushes can be bought larger than needed and filed down to fit anything… Only issue could be brush hardness as it can vary

And I’m sure there are still a few electrical motor repairers around… they couldn’t have all dead off  so they may have a box of appropriate brushes sitting in a corner;)

I looked for brushes about 8-9 years ago and at the time there were none so I bought a new high torque starter online for $69
It was not until last year I fitted it and pulled down the old one for something to do.
I dare say it probably is not economical to repair them at today's prices although this might be worth a punt.
