Good to hear they can still be dismantled.Oh yes they are.
They come apart just like the older 6/8 cylinder starters, only problem is you cannot buy brushes for them.
Haven’t looked for brushes in many many decades but a very brief google search shows:

No idea if you’d find the correct brushes in the above but I can see it’d probably be a PITA to find the exact type. But brushes can be bought larger than needed and filed down to fit anything… Only issue could be brush hardness as it can vary
And I’m sure there are still a few electrical motor repairers around… they couldn’t have all dead off so they may have a box of appropriate brushes sitting in a corner
