code 42

car all of a suddon went into limp mode and i got this code come up and was wondering how i go about fixing it

Code 42 - Electronic Spark Timing Circuit (EST)

in the gregories most of the testing involves the DFI module under the coil packs

the most basic test was to start the car and then put car into diagnostic mode - if the revs dnt decrease then a fault exists - it then goes on to check all wiring on DFI module and COIL packs and then a whole heap of otehr stuff checking resistances - might be easier to just renew the DFI module though

ahh sorry its a v8 so i dont have coil packs and stuff, thanks anyway for the reply

Try someone elses ignition module and see if that cures your problem, although I don't think you were really in limp mode

yeh i dont know cos i was driving home and then i lost heaps of power all of a suddon and the engine light came on so i got home and did a test and it came straight up with code 42, not code 12 at the start, it was 42 and thats it

back when i was having similar issues, i went to the aussiev8 forum and found some good help from a guy that seemed to know about this stuff.
