Can anyone tell me if this tailshaft is alright or if I need to flip it 180 degrees at the uni?

opps is that for a VS
i thought on all commys
the shorter ends faces the gearbox

I know which way it goes, I just pulled it off the car. It looks like the center bearing has been replaced but there is a vibration that goes through the car, diff has been replaced, axles have been replaced, transmission has been replaced. It's better but still a pretty bad vibration, just wondering if they have assembled the tailshaft correctly or if it needs to be turned 180 degrees where the uni is?

You may need to get the balance checked. Because there is only one universal in the middle there is nothing to phase it to like the older drive shafts which had a universal at each end.

What car are you using this in? It's certainly not a VS drive shaft.

I'm actually getting a changeover tailshaft tomorrow but I'm worried that the problem may still persist because the center bearing looks like it may have been done before..

Nah it's not for my VS, this is out of a VX Clubsport 5.7 Auto, which is why I posted in the VT-VX section.

Check around the center of the tail shaft if the bearing has been replaced for hammer/chisel/oxy/sledge hammer marks if some backyarder has replaced it.
They're not cheap to get done and require special tooling to get both pieces apart, most places i've spoken to about them say it's a 50/50 chance of either wrecking them or succeeding.
If it all looks good get it balanced, should be cheaper than a changeover.

Yeah, it's a poor design really how these are put together.

Cheap design :p

The cheeky and possibly cheaper way to get around it would be to use the flange from a VL-VX s1 diff (m76/m78 use the same spline as the m80) and use a VT compatible tailshaft (man/auto/6/8 etc)

I ended up getting a changeover tailshaft for $350 fully reconditioned and it's perfect now, no vibrations at all.. Apparently the center bearing was no good, no movement but the bearing itself no good. Was just easier to get the changeover.
