I think there should be a class that races 1/8th mile 60% of the time with either no prep or full prep, then one, 1km no prep on an air strip and the rest full prep 1/4 mile.

discuss.

First point of call would be finding a place to drag race 1K...

I believe alot of drag strips have issues with run off for the real fast classes to begin with over the 400M, hence why 1/8 mile for the fast classes have become popular

1/8th mile is a thing, and it is good because you don't end up with high MPH and really low ET, which is great for street cars without cages and all the rest of the stuff regulations call for, there are still MPH and ET limits though

It can be problematic for boosted cars that move out in the big end, but great for dialed in NA and PD cars

1000m runs are problematic as stated above, terminal speed is high

I won the RWD class in my old R33 on a 800 metre event at the Goulburn airport years ago, even slowing down from 800 meters on a "unprepped" airstrip is "interesting" when the airstrip ends in grass a couple of 100 meters away and your doing about 250 kph

No, Coonabarabran and the air port just out of Cooma have 1k drags.

Sorry I meant Cootamundra instead of Coonabararan, sorry my mistake.

not sure if its changed but i last herd only maby 3 airports in Aus were doing the 1000m, alot of the big cars get to 300+kph so need a extra long stopping area too

A car I used to crew on went 328kph at Temora in around the mid 16 seconds, back in 2013, went 351kph at Race Wars in W.A too. Not sure how that would feel in my commodore.
thats why i done some underbody aero  but the rear section is the key to get right in the VE if airflow leaves better it helps alot

It's all to do with 'insurance and liability'...
