Car batteries are really easy to recycle if you only care about the lead and toss the plastic cases into landfill and the acids down the drain

The fact caned tomatoes are shipped around the world rather than grown and canned locally (next to the market that consumes them) already means environment doesn’t matter, only $$ matter…

It’s just crazy to ship cans of tomatoes from Italy to Australia and probably from Australia to Italy but there is profit to be made
That's free market capitalism where the consumer must have plenty of choice all year round.

Really? I read 18000 tons pa.
Sorry missed that as I just scanned the article

18,000 ton * 907 kg/ton = 1,746,000kg processed per year

Average li car battery is 450kg (according to quick google search)
=> 3880 average li car batteries per year (80 batteries per week for a 48 week year).

Tesla’s currently producing around 4000 cars per week (and scaling up) so I guess we’ll need a lot more battery recycle places. And the recycled goop presumably still needs to be refined and made into batteries).

It’s a start but at the moment li recycling doesn’t look like it’s scaling fast enough…

Too many
There's a place in Melbourne run by GUD which repoposes and refurbishes EV batteries, I believe many evenually end up in energy storage for homes/business due to the less demanding cycle than an EV.
