Hi any advice would be helpful. Drive the vt today and all of a sudden lost gears and it started screaming.. when you start the car it got a loud squealing noise, you can put your foot on break to select drive and the car lifts as if it’s going to do all that fine it is even saying it’s in drive but when you let your foot off the break and accelerate the car doesn’t go no where it just continues squealing.. prior to this had no gear box problems. Thank you for any advice or opinions

Sounds like the gearbox oil is past it's used by date.

How long since it has been serviced?

Is the gearbox oil red in colour, or brown/clearish?

Does it smell burnt?

Agree first thing to do is dump the oil and change the filter. If that doesn't fix it then it's probably a major problem.

Sounds like a rebuild to be honest.
They don’t last forever.
When was it last serviced properly?
How long ago and at what kms?
Kms now?

Just to support the previous posts, #21 from 4L60e common problems:

21. No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. R&R, or refill pan and find the leak. If out of fluid, avoid running the engine until the trans is refilled to avoid pump damage. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken.

R&R = Remove & Repair (or Rebuild) = Transmission must be removed to fix the problem and may have to be rebuilt or replaced.
