Also you are saying I should run diesel oil through it for a bit?

As for running diesel oil in it /through it, its your call,
Others may/will say don’t,
But I did my homework on diesel oils and they will do NO harm to a petrol engine, but need to make sure it indicates it’s suitable for petrol engines,
And the GV Diesel oil is suitable for this.

“Half the VEs in my town seem to be nickel too for some reason, must have been a popular choice when the car was released”

If that is the case,
make sure your rego plates are fixed with 1 way screws, or additional bolts.

just filter every 2k I think he was meaning. Oil & filter every 6k. Good intervals really if you do a lot of stop start driving. I do similar, every 6-8k and have only heard it runner smoother overtime.
So reuse the old oil? Or you can change filter without draining it somehow?

So reuse the old oil? Or you can change filter without draining it somehow?

You can just unscrew the oil filter and pop a new one on and then check oil level and top up as required. Just changing teh filter doesnt requie the oil which sits iwithin teh sump to be drianed.

Do this filter change every 2,000kms and on the third filter change at 6,000kms also drain and replace the oil itself...

The good thing with mixed fleet diesel oil is that it has stronger cleaning agents within and that can help to slowly clean up an abused engine...

Depending on your driving,
But Oil and Filter should be changed definitely at every 10,000 k's,
not 15,000 k's like the manual mentions.

Since I don't know the history of the car I'll assume it was probably not looked after too well so will do filter every 2k and oil every 6k as suggested. Is it safe to run the diesel oil for 6k or just run it for 1k then put recommended oil in?

For the case of the exercise, use it once and see how it goes,

Again maintenance is a unknow factor, so I would do the first couple [inc Oil and Filter] at 6,000 k/s,
At least you can monitor it for the first couple of services, then take it from there.
Then no more than 10,000 k/s for the next services.
