Got the right section now! This is the story about my VL V8 calais. Rescued from a car yard about 10 years ago. Stone chipped but strait and stock! First mods were tint, lowering and VY .SV8 rims . The 5.0 litre black motor was a bit tired so i found a VT 5.0 litre. Fairly easy transplant and tried to make things look original. Made a cold air intake going to VT airbox. Slight mods to fit VT twin thermos to VL radiator. Even used VT emission and warning stickers. Relocated battery to boot. Fitted external trans cooler. Running an Autronic ECU . So much better for tuning. Genie extractors to suit walkinshaw were the only option at the time and they connect to a Redback 2.5 inch system. Found a good brake upgrade from HSV. VY front callipers and VZ monaro rear disks and callipers . These were from new cars that go to HSV for BIG brakes! Had to sleeve the handbrake drum to suit VL setup. After road tuning, produced 141 rwkw and ran a 14.3 quarter. Not bad for a stock motor, stock trimatic and stock 3.08 single wheeler diff. More recently i have upgraded suspension with bilsteins all round. King front and pedders rear springs. Adjustable strut tops, Z bars and adjustable upper rear control arms from whiteline . Boxed in control arms and nolethane bushes throughout . Fitted a lokka diff centre with 3.45 ratio. Currently fitting a T700 so more mods to do! Feel free to ask any questions regarding the build. Here's a few pics of the car atm. Including modified v6 t700 crossmember and cut and shut Y piece to suit bigger trans pan.

Sounds like a nice build mate. Just a quick tip. If u upload ur pics to photobucket then copy the IMG code of the photo u paste the code into ur thread and it will post a full picture not just little thumbnails like above. Saves ppl clicking onto them and waiting the photo to load :)

keen to read a bit more about yout fan setup as I will be attacking that soon. I think i got a single fan thermo setup from the donor car but that looks like a nice fit.

Nice work on the vt box as well. I plan on doing somethign similar with a pipe going into the front guard and to the front spoiler for max cool air.

also keen to see where you modded the drive tunnel to fit the t700. I am about to do that as well so yeah, keep up the good work and i look foward to seeing more.

Ok. So i should let you know that i have access to mechanical and engineering workshops with a lot of special tools which have made all these jobs alot easier! Firstly the fans. I used a thin piece of sheet metal bent at right angle and bolted it to the radiator support panel behind bottom of radiator. The bottom of the fan shroud simply slots in front of this sheet metal. At the top i mounted a piece of aluminium angle [could use steel] to the top rear lip of the radiator. I have used nut inserts to fasten these bits. If you can get access to a nut insert gun, do it! The top of the shroud steps down and up again so a few little spacers were required between shroud and top bracket. Used M6 screws to fasten top of shroud to this top bracket. You will also need to remove some sections of the shroud around top and bottom hoses and filler neck area on radiator. Angle grinder and die grinder required! Not sure how to attach photos to this reply!!! Help?
