Iam pretty sure my balance shaft is causing the rattle in my v6 vs. After it warms up its pretty loud. But I was wondering why it doesnt rattle when its cold? Could putting a thicker oil in there quieten it down?
At the moment im using 15w50 oil. so I was thinking a thicker oil at high temp would be better?

Any feedback would be great thanks.

The factory recommends 20W50, so maybe go to the higher one which is 60 or 70?....there are a few brands aimed at cars with "higher mileage" But first you could just throw a can of oil stabiliser in and see if it quitens down.
Good Luck.

Ok cheers hako, Im gonna disable the shaft and hope for the best. If its still rattling, then thicker oil and just see how it goes.

could even be your timing chain that is worn, replace it while you have the timing cover off and just remove the gear for the balance shaft leaving it in place
