Well done to both of you.
It's a good fix and it's saved the OP a fist full of cash too.

But it may be a good idea just to check the YE112 plug.
You never know, it might be just as simple as a bad connection.

yes we checked all 3 plugs and op sent me photos to double check

Good to hear you've got this one on the ropes!

I guess the mechanic just checked the voltage on OBD pin 16, the check of pin 9 voltage may have revealed/suggested the ECU/PCM was unpowered (although I wonder if the BCM would have supplied voltage on that pin anyway).

must be output from BCM

It just branches out to pin 9 on the OBD port.

Pin 9 (Red/Black wire) is serial data from The PCM (C13) to the BCM (connector 3) .
It just branches out to pin 9 on the OBD port.
Except for a 5 second period after starting the car (as I recall), pin 9 is also linked via a relay in the BCM to the remaining ALDL modules.
