G'day,
I would like to replace the power/economy switch in the commy with maybe a missile switch or something of the like.

Would this be an easy endeavor, or not worth the hassle?

Cheers, and thanks for reading.

In terms of wiring, it will be as easy as it gets - the pwr/econ switch is simply an on/off switch, so figure out which way you want the 'missile' switch to be to have the pwr mode and which for the economy mode and wire it to suit. Trial and error will be OK (you have a 50% chance of being right the first time).

The hole for the factory switch will almost certainly be too big for the new switch, so use a PRNDL surround from an earlier model. Pre late VP, the surrounds are smooth. With late VP the moulding was changed to be the same as that for the VR/VS but the hole wasn't present. Probably neatest to get one of those (used) and drill it to suit the new switch. I would also pick up another VR/VS switch at the same time and cut the wire pigtail off that to solder to the new switch so you can easily unplug it if you want to take the PRNDL surround out at some time in the future.

Bloody good idea!

I'll have to check out the wreckers and try and get a VP console cover.

Cheers.
