Hi Guys,
I guess I’m in the right place but please refer me elsewhere if not.
Driving my beloved 08 Sv6 home and everything was normal.
Jumped back in the car after 30mins and and check engine light comes on.
Chucked my scanner on and it’s the fabled P0008…
Came out of the blue nice surprise after work.
I haven’t had any noticeable rattleson cold startup, power loss, fuel economy issues etc
So I was pretty surprised about this anyways she’s an old girl 230000kms so I’m assuming it’s time for the chains to have gotten stretched?
I have been reading about a software update that removes the warning obviously doesn’t fix the issue but is this actually a real thing done by Holden Service?
Also I’m after some recommendations and ideas of what am the cost of timing chain replacement is?
I’m in Sydney so any mechanic recommendations or people that could assist with the update and/or chain replacement would be awesome.
I do like the car so I’m not ready to give up on her yet!

I have used the Cam locks both times on my LY7,
Mace was selling them for approx. $14 per kit.
Worth every cent !

Depends were you go,
$1200 > $2000
Depends on how much they upsell or try to rip you off.
