VE 3.6 SIDI
G'day, I couldn't find exactly what I was after in the search, so sorry if I missed something thats been discussed to death.

I bought a 2009 VE v6 ute LLT SIDI 6 speed manual as I needed a ute and wanted something a bit cheaper to run than my 200 Sahara.

I do 240km a day commuting to work, average speed 95kph mostly sitting at 115, 100 and a 60 stint in the middle. I get about 9L per 100km which is worse than my VZ sv6 auto was on the same run.

My big issue is when sitting at 110-115 in 6th I'm sitting around 2100-2300rpm and fuel consumption on the freeway is much worse than sitting at 80-90. The gearing of 6th is crap.

Curious to see if others have the same issue?

I get similar fuel economy on my VF Wagon with a similar engine, so your fuel economy figures sound about right...

Standard sized wheels and tyres?

AFAIK the VE is almost 200kg heavier than the equivalent VZ too.

9/100 isnt terrible, especially for a decent vehicle.

If you want 5/100 get a Nissan Micra, Mitsu Mirage or Suzuki Alto or Ignis.

If you want 2.5/100 get a 125cc motorcycle or scooter.

Or a VZ auto and get 7-7.5 on the same run lol. It's all freeway driving, where all other commodore v6s I've owned have been great, though this is a manual which I thought with 6 gears would be even better. Seems the auto is just better on the highways?

9L doesn’t sound bad, mines running about 11 at the moment and I’m not sure why

Getting consistent fuel economy figures in a manual is a lot more problematic as it all comes down to your driving/shifting style.

What RPMs are you shifting up at? Peak torque on the SIDI 3.6 is at around 2500rpm so if your not shifting up at 2500rpm you’re leaving some fuel economy on the table.

Maybe you do have a mechanical problem causing excessive fuel consumption as I used to get around 8.5\100km out of my auto 2009 SV6 on about 80% highway 20% city. Being only a port injection engine I would expect that my SV6 would have been worse than your direct injection engine but like I said the big caveat is your driving style.
