VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
Seal kits seem cheap enough.

Tyres seem ok...Is that age wise, pressure wise, tread wise?

Any binding up when you have the front end off the ground, moving the front wheels?

If it's not the pump then it really only leaves the rack.

Sorry, never changed a VE rack so I can't comment on that.

Question? Is there any electrical systems that work with the rack? Like the old variatronic system on the older models?

Yes !

Its not that hard,
But make sure you have the car on ramps,
Which will help with keeping the Wheel alignment in some sort of order for the rack replacement,
But for the case of the exercise,
Take measurement's incase it turns pear shape.

PS. Grab those V8 Engine Mounts for spares.

When l was converting my power steering to electric p/s. l came across a symptom like yours. Very hard to turn the steering wheel.

What it turned out to be was a oring had broken on one of the pipes that go to the rack.
I had noticed there wasn't a oring on that pipe on the reassembly, so put a new oring in.
Well like yours, it was hard to turn the s/w.
I eventually took one of the pipes of (and lucky for me) it was the first one.

If it wasn't that one, l would have checked the others.

I took out the boken oring & replaced with a new one, it was all good.

If you are going to swap racks, look for a broken oring first.

Hi Lex, on those bolts in the first photo?? They look like banjo bolts. I stuffed up the washer yesterday and made some mods to stop the leak. Luckily when i was looking at the donner car i saw a washed in there!
