Hey guys I was wondering, if you can get Aftermarket satnav on a VF 2013 (series 1). It's sv6 so doesn't come with it standard. What's the easiest way to get it on my car?

Cheers

I reckon there are 4 main ways to go:
(a) Google Maps, synch the ‘phone through MyLink for audio, get a ‘phone mount
(b) get a used MyLink with the SatNav from a Redline/Calais/etc
(c) complete replacement for head-unit
(d) a module that connects to the MyLink, doesn’t vibe perfectly but lets you see the ‘phone screen on the MyLink (Google Maps again)

I think that (c) is probably the neatest for your case, but prolly also the expensivest.
Maybe search for comments in various threads about SatNav and MyLink (and replacements thereof).

If you decide to replace unit with original one from GMH, it will cost about $180 for the map upgrades which are still about a year or so out of date. best option, buy a phone mount and use google maps or a cheap GPS with lifetime map updates when they come on special.

Google maps on phone is much better than Mylink satnav. I considered swapping out the system in my SV6 since I liked it in my other car, but realised best to just get a phone mount. I tend to use Google in the car that already has satnav activated in My link since it is easier to use, especially in Sydney traffic
I also don't believe the interface boxes that allow use of Mylink screen are seamless.

Benefits of phone
  • Continuously updated maps
  • Intuitive destination input with alternative routes
  • Realtime traffic conditions and rerouting advice
  • Easier zooming etc.
  • Far cheaper - cost of mount is low compared to swapping out Mylink box and programming
  • Can use alternatives - Waze gives alerts, Here is sometimes good, also speed camera apps available etc, etc
Cons:
  • Not as tidy as factory
  • Screen is smaller than Mylink

My daughter had aftermarket satnav fitted to her '14 SS through the dealer.

AFAIK she's happy with it.

Removed from Calais, also removed from GTSR.o_O
Copy and paste error. I hope.
I am surprised by how cheap these are now. Last time I looked, they wanted more than twice this amount.

Also, I thought the units had to be programmed to your car/VIN?

Do you recall how much the work cost Poor Old Dad? Thanks.
