Vn-vt 5l cams

Righto I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 1999 vs ute 5l.
The motor is a vt hsv r8 motor I do know that. I'm wanting to put a baby cam in it nothing big.
What I wanna know is what cam is the best at the same time not changing vales, rockers etc all that ****. Any help will be appreciated

Isn't the R8 later model LS only? Or did it come earlier?
Is it a VT 5ltr roller motor?

What is your plan on ECU tuning?

Yes, AFAIK,

R8 was series II with LS.

Series one would be 5 litre 195kw roller motor.

Speak to tuner buy what they recommend that has results you're after.

Personally don't see if worth hassle without decent compression with cam and usual mods then worth spending extra coin getting tune.

Otherwise leave motor stock do other things like diff gears/stally instead.

From what I know 1997-1998 had a 5liter.
My Ute was viv back in 05

yes it's a vt motor. (My vs was water damaged in 05 so they swap it out with a r8 motor I was told but who knows could be a vt ss 5liter motor)
But don't know. At the moment it's find out if I can get away without doing vales rockers and the hole nine yards. I don't wanna run a big asf cam a baby baby one will do
( haven't done much cam swaps and wouldn't know anything about cams beside putting a motor back together)

Was told by my mechanic it's a r8 motor and a mates dad who works at Holden ( what's left) that it is.
But I know it's not the og motor. Vins in the book doesn't match the ones on the side. It's a roller cam but

Post the engine number.

You haven't really answered the question. Cam options are completely different if it is a 5ltr versus if it is an R8 LS based motor. And no-one can recommend until we know.
Maybe post a picture so we can see (and very quickly identify)

How are you going to rebuild an engine without changing or grinding a valve?
If you're going to add a cam it's probably better to change the rockers.
