Hello Team,

First post here.

I own a 2002 VX Commodore Acclaim (Series II).
I'm unsure if its fitted with an alarm, though it seems like it is.

When the vehicle is locked and armed, interfering with the bonnet, doors, boot etc seems to trigger some sort of setting, where the blinkers flash rhythmically for about 20 seconds in an alarm type fashion, though no noise can be heard coming from the horn like a typical alarm.
I did a bit of looking underneath the bonnet in the fuse box, and there are two relays of interest:
1. Theft Horn Relay
2. Horn Relay

The horn relay obviously controls the standard horn. When the 'alarm' is triggered, I can hear the theft horn relay clicking, but there's definitely no sound.
Is there supposed to be two horns in this commodore, is this due to a faulty horn if so, or is the car just not fitted with an alarm and I'm wrong?

Thanks,
Dan

series 2 had a factory fitted alarm as standard
it flashes the indicators and beeps a secondary horn which is located on passenger side between strut tower and firewall
the wire is probably off of the secondary horn

Have a look on the passenger's side, between the firewall and the strut tower.
There should be a horn there.
May be it's cactus, or has become disconnected.

If the indicators flash without noise , the alarm is working but the horn is shot . Unless the horn on passenger strut is missing then the wiring should be there
I had the same issue with mine and took a tarago van horn of all things from my brothers old junker and it worked

You will need a torx bit to undo the screw if it original as its a security screw . You can undo them with a small screwdriver and pliers but it's a slow process

Hello Lout,
and a major thankyou to everyone else! Great to have such a helpful community.

I've located the horn. Everything physically looks fine (ie Wires plugged in, screwed on).
Is there any way I can test the horn myself to determine if its a wiring issue or an issue with the horn itself?

Cheers,
Dan

Disconnect the plug , get a spare piece of wire and run direct from positive battery terminal to the horn itself . There is only one terminal on the horn as it's earthed to the body
If it don't beep with direct power it's buggered
