Process started, about 30mins work so far scuffing up the paint and using a flapper wheel on the edge.

I think I'll want a paint stripper for the others to cut down on the initial work

Some deep gutter rash that may need welding to build it up vs removing material.
Should of started with the paint stripper first.

Go easy on the flapper wheels. If you gouge it, will be a prick to blend it in.

All good, I've 2 old rotor hats and a an old hub to sit the wheel on and rotate the rim and keep the flapper wheel and sandpaper consistent across the surface to minimise gouges.

Quick hit with 200grit wet dry sandpaper and spinning the wheel instead of wearing myself out..

I used a finishing sander on the rash on mine. That got most of it out. Some still needed Devcon. But depending on how deep the rash is you might not be able to sand it out and obviously you won't be able to use Devcon if polishing.

Put the car on jack stands, bolt the rim to the rear, place the car in drive and hold the sand paper against the rim.

Honestly thought about it, but its only good for the edge and centre 10mm. Spokes are manual process.

Might attempt it to smooth out the rash evenly.

I've done this in the past and it needed a heap of counter weights. Trying to avoid it and keep it uniform

To answer my own question it's an alloy of some sort. The reason for the question is normally rash would show the base material, but these weren't shiny as expected.

It's clear now that the rash pushed the primer in and not just scrape it off.

More progress today, cleaning the primer mostly round the centre.

Thought what the hell and hit the centre and a spoke with cutting compound for shits and giggles. Not half bad for only 200 grit prior to cutting.

I don't have all the proper tools, drill has been the choice tool atm.

I have a couple foam cones and a rag thingo attachment. Will get a couple more polishing attachments.

I have mothers mag & aluminium polish which I've used before, but will keep the purple polish in mind.

More progress in between Christmas preparations, just wet sanding with 200 girt.

Need to strip the paint next to each spoke, going easist route to finish them off.
