In my experience, the simple answer to the worth of E85 is if you have supercharged the motor to get performance, have it correctly set up for flex fuel (fuel flow etc as it is less efficient in terms of usage) then E85 will give you more power. Before & after dyno figures show the improvement.

I believe VF (at least) have the flex-fuel capabilities as standard, so run what you like. The higher the octane rating theoretically the more power. Issue with E85 is it is less efficient in terms of mileage but produces more power which is why we use it at the track - by that equation to...

Looking for feedback on bypassing the cat converters to gain power when racing, but a simple way of switching back to be more-or-less street legal as I like to drive on the street. Is there a decent / sane method and any comment on HP gain.

98 & E85 - 98 always BP or Caltex, E85 just whatever brand they sell at the track Have had the car tuned for Flex and the goodies that go with having to get enough E85 into the engine to make it worthwhile. Never had an issue with 98 "gelling" though the car can, at times, sit for 4-6 weeks...

Working on getting that 598 rwhp to a much larger number in steady steps to see what each $ brings at the rears :-)

As a beginner, one thing that I had been told & now understand, is that a good launch is so important.

Have watched a few but only just did our first run and in a 6 speed auto, so unfortunately I can't offer any advice other than have fun, check out some of the radical cars & enjoy doing something which would get your car crushed if you got caught on a public road :D

Thanks for that - I chased it up but the Monaro bonnet cross braces are located differently, as in the cross over is from a central point not the horizontal rib.

Talk about gear shifts - this is where we are rolling in manual 2nd (6 speed auto) but not loaded up enough when flicking to auto. It grabs 3rd and dies :-( All a learning curve.
