from the original direction of this thread, OP is looking at a lot more than a trimatic can handle. 400HP is about their limit (or so i have been told) before the housing poops itself.

powerglide can easily go to 1000HP and i have a seen a few running 1500hp :D

and god they are nice to drive

you would be suprised with the trimatic.my father in law owns his own shop and specilises in transmissions.and the trimatics ive seen that have been built and put through racing/burnout comps and still 10 years later going strong you wouldnt beleive it.yes the t350/400 range and glides are good but add alot of extra weight aswell.........depends how serious you realy want to get

Yeh, but glides belong behind blown V8's, anything less than that and a glide is a handicap. TH350 FTW.

The biggest problem with trimatics is the lack of new hard parts available for them, you have to go searching for good second hand parts to build a decent auto. Not to mention the fact that most of the time they have a mind of there own shifting gears whenever they feel like it.

TH400 is heavy, TH350 is not much heavier than a Trimatic, Glide is about the same weight.

OP, start with a turbo pattern block, you won't look back.

well the most amazing thing happened today, i was going around wreakers today looking for a black 308 when i walked into this place that a older fella was running

when i asked for a black 308 he asked why and i said im converting my VK from a 202 to a 308. he said don't waste your time i got a VK calais for sale with a mild 308, turbo 400 box and its only got 119, 000km ... he wanted 5 grand for it, i've haggled him down to 4 grand and next weekend im going to sus it out .... this could well be a win !

A few months back a mate had a VK Calais with a group A kit (or sumfin like that), 308 trimatic. Wasn't to bad. Was straight, but paint was faded, sold it for $1400!! Wish we had the money and space at the time lol.

I know of a nice one for sale. Rekon he's after 7k. Worth it tho!

"VK Calais, worked 308, hi-stall torque converter, shift kitted tri-mattic, rebuilt standard diff, 17 inch mags with very good tyres, extractors, sports exhaust, pedders suspension, all new bushes throughout."

I rekon the motor was making around the 160rwkw mark, has a 286 cam I rekon. Belongs to a mate's Dad.
