308 Engine number meaning. VJ576031

Can anyone tell me what the engine numbers mean? What year and car it may have been in? Numbers are VJ576031. There is also a 4J7 on the block. Any help would be great.

Quick google search leads to this page which seems to indicate VJxxxxxx is a 304 out of a VL commodore.

The 4J7 sems to be a date code.

But no idea it any of that is true...

its the basis for the race engine in my VK race car.

VJ is a 304 black 'carb' motor for the VL
and the cast date?
4 September 1987, pretty much smack in the middle
of VL commodore production
