Die grinders.

Can anyone recommend a 1/4" collet, straight (corded) die grinder?

Prefer something with a cylindrical, parallel handle, so I can adapt it to be a tool post grinder on my lathe.

I'll have a chat with a mate as I know he has die grinding tools.
I mean I also have one but it's a battery version.

What's the idea behind using it on the lathe? Serious question as when I chat with said mate he might have some suggestions.

I want to mount it on a tool post to get a ground finish on shafts, bored holes and turned tapers, like internal and external Morse tapers, and ER collet tapers.
Dedicated tool post grinders are available for lathes but are pretty pricey.
Just want something for occasional use.
Vevor have a couple of suitable spindle motors fitted with ER collets ($190 for 2.2kw ER20) but are 3 phase and need to run from a VFD.

Any info you can find would be appreciated.

I have a Dremmel and love it.

I agree! I have a Dremel and an M12 Milwaukee battery version and love both of them.
Unfortunately, they won't spin 1/4" mounted points and don't generate enough torque for what I need.

I have a long neck air die grinder and use it alot.
Almost like if nothing else works or reaches the tight spot, always revert to the die grinder.

Found this, which had an interesting air die grinder on the Quick Change post.
How would it go with the accuracy though? Would there be any imbalance issues and so on?

*He was a fitter/machinist and the more i find out, the more amazing some of the techniques/requirements sound, ie temp correcting for tolerances etc.

Maybe a more basic CNC spindle, such as a DC one? You probably won’t need a lot of power for a grinder?

Got pneumatic die grinders at home in the garage with a decent compressor.
Haven't got the funds at the moment to get a decent compressor for the workshop.
No compressed air at the moment....

No air in the workshop, which is why I'm looking for a corded die grinder.
It will come down to cost, corded die grinder versus sourcing a spindle with collet, bearings, belt, and something to use as a motor.

Accuracy shouldn't be a problem as long as the motor/spindle doesn't vibrate, and the abrasives are dressed prior to use.

Love watching YouTube videos where people are claiming tolerances that are only obtainable in a controlled atmosphere laboratory.
