Howdy,

Anyone know what the material is that the VX C4B 300 engines covers are made from, some sort of carbon resin mixture?

I have a set here with too many coats of paint, wanted to safely strip them, or at least the last one that was heavily applied and not cleaned first by previous owner. I thought someone may have had luck in the past with 'plastic-friendly' paint strippers or similar.

Likewise, other techniques like soda blasting may work, but wanted to know if safe on this material and won't lose the texture, which is currently covered in paint!

Have you tried just a Kaarcher? Hit it with the water jet - if there's a bunch of coats, it should come off pretty easily.
Failing that, caustic soda doesn't affect plastic. If you want to try something milder - go oven cleaner. If you can't find caustic soda, use draino.

Some of that jelly/gel paint stripper, and if it doesn’t workout you could…

paint it.

I'm already seeing faces in the oily fisheyes that cover them. Why do people think they can just fill them by adding more and more coats of paint and skip cleaning? The paint is so thick you wouldn't know they were once textured. It also causes forgetfulness and bad photography skills. The seller at the time didn't think to mention or show either, was actually quite proud of the paint job.

Did he paint the covers while still on the engine? Now that would be something.

It’s not ABS.

I just learned something.

Here’s what is printed on my engine cover.
MAT (Material) PA6-GF15
Reinforced Polyamide 6
-GF15 refers to Glass Fibre 15%

(I think the PA refers to Polymer Abreviation)

Looking up some stuff, it keeps getting said about using brake fluid to remove paint on plastics.

Might be worth trying on a patch of it.

I've heard brake fluid soaks into surfaces under the paint and can be hard to get it completely off. I know I've used plastic fuel hose as a brake fluid line before and the BF leached through over time.
