    They just called back and said it had [actually only] taken 5 hours: 2 hours per front mount and another for the trans mount. At least their hourly rate is not too bad – $95 p/h plus GST. Still reckon I am getting stiffed on the time. Anyway, thanks for the tips – better to be in the know!

    My mechanic took a look at it and agreed it was not right – more than just incorrect idle. Suspected engine mounts and tested – load at standstill made the engine rise up visibly ... both in D and R. Swapping out for new next week.

    Apparently when the ATF is changed a good deal of it remains in the unit ... so it ends up looking dirty again shortly after change even though 80% of it is new. Of course, it's hard to check on the road given this is a sealed unit – no dip stick.

    Thanks for chiming in ... that's pretty interesting. As far as I know the battery is good. It ran flat a few months back (light left on) but my auto elec gave it a re-charge and gave it the all clear. Also, I do hear a bit of a 'tick/click' sound from below with some gear changes.

With all that sophistication I just don't get how some of these mechanics have said that the timing chain issue can cause poor shift with the transmission and throw it (sometimes) into limp mode...

    Thanks. Trans was serviced a month back, including replace faulty solenoid. I think I will take it to Rd'S and get them to diagnose with proper scan tool ... and if they pick up a trans error at the same time I will go back and have that sorted separately.
